Gruyères

For a true taste of Switzerland, you’ll find cheese, chocolate and a slice of tradition in Gruyères. 

Just over an hour’s drive from Lausanne, this charming medieval village set high on a hill commands glorious views of the surrounding countryside.  

Your first stop must be La Maison du Gruyères, where you can watch this iconic Swiss cheese be made and aged, then try some samples of it at peak maturity.  

To satisfy a sweet tooth, Maison Cailler is nearby. The oldest Swiss chocolate brand in existence offers a tour, a boutique – and that all-important tasting experience. 

Just don’t forget to leave room for fondue before you depart – it’s the only sensible option given your setting.
